This month we start by saying a big Thank you!

Between January 2007 and November, 2007, your purchases enabled us to support
Batsiranai. How did it happen? You bought lots of cuddly, charming soft toys made by
these women!

From our hearts to yours ... thank you for supporting Batsiranai. We visited the center a
second time in November 2007 and this month's
blog-spot features our very interesting
account of that visit. Follow our story which includes photos and videos as we meet the
women, meet the children, and describe the neighborhood in which they are based. These
are women contributing to their own success through hard work and not handouts. They
deserve your continued attention. One of the women at the center is Rosey, pictured
below. Rosey has had a tough life, especially her early years during Zimbabwe's liberation
struggle. She worked as a Chimbwido (virgin girl who served the Mujibahs - messengers)
from age ten to age 15.  Batsiranai has helped her to become self sufficient and she is
grateful for it.

We also have a new shipment of their
African dolls! They have a new style – bigger “Mama”
doll carrying babies on their backs. We were touched to learn that these new doll styles
are based on a suggestion we made on our last visit in January 2007. We had suggested
that they should make dolls with a baby on the back, which is consistent with how most
African mothers carry their children anyway. They listened to us and they did it! This is a
testament to them really. They took our casual suggestions ever so seriously because they
are hungry for knowledge on how to make their products more competitive on the
international maket place. Zimbabwe’s reputation has sunk to such low depths that they,
along with millions of our other artists have become forgotten citizens as old well wishers
and supporters move to other parts of the world. We hope you will think of them when
you next buy a toy for your child.

Happy shopping, and have a great month everyone!
