WIMBAI NGOMA'S BIOGRAPHY

Wimbai Ngoma was born on the 14th of July 1975 in Nyanga district, Zimbabwe.  He is the first born in
a family of nine.   He grew up in Nyanga where he did both his primary and secondary education at a
mission school called Avilla.

His artistic abilities were quick to show even at the tender age of nine years while he was still at primary
school.   He did exceptionally well in art and craft subjects.  It was not surprising therefore that soon
after completing his secondary Education he quickly turned to the hammer and chisel.

In 1998 he enrolled at Chapungu sculpture Park where he apprenticed under the pupillage of one of
Zimbabwe's seasoned sculptors - Passmore Mashaya.   This was to be the beginning of Wimbai's
journey into the artistic world.

While at Chapungu Wimbai rubbed shoulders with some of the masters in stone curving of all
generations who are based at the Chapungu Park.   It was no wonder therefore that he developed great
skill and moulded himself into a perfect artist. He quickly grasped and explored the sculpure world deep.
His sense of creativity became incredibly strong and in no time he was a weaned and honed artist.

Art became Wimbai's life, his love and a part of his heart. To him art is that voice within him echoing
expressions of freedom, nature and life's realities and an expose of mankind's personal feelings.

His hard work , perseverance and persistence began to pay dividends in 2005 as he scooped an award at
"THE SECOND AGIO SCULPTORS SYMPOSIUM 2005".    This was to be followed by another
award in 2007 in a Korean Embassy sponsored competition held at the National Gallery.     The winning
of these awards marks Wimbai's rise to stardom.

Wimbai Ngoma is an ambitious sculptor whose strong vision for the future and hard work has earned
him much appreciation from many an art collector.
